Canine Treatments

A full range of treatments can be offered to dogs. Here is an example of some of the conditions that physiotherapy can be applied.

Wounds:

  • Assist in prevention of suture breakdown.
  • Optimise rate of healing, especially larger wounds.
  • Limit bacterial growth in wound.

Backs:

  • Acute or chronic back conditions i.e. prolapsed discs, CDRM.
  • Trauma – ligament, muscular, fractures.
  • Spinal stiffness.
  • Pain and muscle spasm.
  • Sacro-iliac problems, muscle wasting and weakness due to spinal conditions.

Limbs:

  • Arthritic conditions (DJD).
  • Limb weakness, paralysis from nerve injury.
  • Tendon & ligament injuries.
  • Post surgery; hip dysplasia, cruciate repair etc.
  • Fractures; slow or non-union especially.
  • Protection/support for damaged joints via individually made splints.

Competition Dogs

Competition dogs are often working at a demanding physical level, be it; obedience, obstacle, showing, working or racing, and in so doing are putting their bodies under increased strain. Over time this strain can readily create areas of discomfort leading to altered ways of moving, changes in behaviour, or development of chronic or sometimes even acute injuries.

Physiotherapy can be very beneficial at regular intervals for these animals to maintain musculo-skeletal health, suppleness, comfort, and pick up on any developing problems.

To determine whether physiotherapy would be of benefit, either contact us or your veterinarian for advice.

A Canine 'MOT'

As with horses, we can provide a full ‘MOT’ check of your dog to assess the state of their spine & musculo-skeletal system. This is particularly useful for dogs with a history of arthritic or chronic neurological conditions. Any problems found will then be treated there and then.
